Overheard at the pool this morning --

"I'm not showing her listings ever again!"

"Why?"

"Where do I start?  First, I hate dealing with her assistant, she's a real pill.  Never tells you where her boss is or exactly what time she'll be back.  And she ALWAYS has to accompany on showings.  And then, when we're there, she talks to my clients!  And not just a hi, she asks them their names and everything!  And then, if you actually have an offer on one of her listings, she won't even present it without the EMD in hand!  Won't take a faxed copy!  I mean, have you ever heard such nonsense?  I don't have time to drive that stuff over to her office, let's just get the ball rolling and if we come to an agreement, I'll see that she gets the check."

I don't usually eavesdrop, but these two were pretty loud, and I have to admit, the subject matter intrigued me.  I happen to live in a neighborhood that is inundated with Real Estate Agents, so these types of conversations take place all the time.

Let's just jump right over the legality of her comment that she's never going to show her listings again (evidently she already has!) and move on to;  REALLY, those are the things you have a problem with??

Her assistant is most likely doing what a good assistant does and following orders.  Why do you have to know where she is anyway?

She accompanies on showings?  Did you ever think that maybe her sellers insist on that?

She's polite?  Should you ever show one of my listings, or I one of yours, I'll try to remember that you don't like polite.

She asked their names?  We always record the names of people that go into our listings, it's called protecting your seller and yourself.  Plus, what if they by some odd chance call me directly?  Wouldn't you like for me to be able to protect you?

SHE WHAT??? WANTS THE EMD WITH THE CONTRACT?  ARE YOU KIDDING ME?  THE NERVE!!  I mean what kind of an agent insists on following the law?  How does she stay in business?!

She sounds like someone that respects her sellers, her self and her profession.  She sounds like someone that understands the law, the rules and the importance of both.

I never did learn the name of this unreasonable agent, but you can bet she's someone I want to work with.  And if I had to guess, she's someone that her clients respect and appreciate.
