Hurricane Season started in June and we've been lucky not to see any hurricane activity here in Wrightsville Beach, NC so far this season.  That could all change with Tropical Storm Danielle.  It is believed that she will reach Hurricane status within the next 24 hours and it's too early to guess what path she will take.  We need to be prepared regardless, so here are a few things you can do now to be ready in case she decides to visit us.

• Have a plan.  All family members should know where to meet should you become separated.  Know what you are going to do with the family pets.  Have an out of state family member or friend as a single point of contact for everyone.
• Have a Disaster Supply Kit.  This kit should include things like water, non-perishable food items, medications, flashlight, batteries, blankets and toiletries.  
• Check your Insurance.  Most Homeowner's Policies do not include Flood Damage.  If you do not have this, please look into it, flood damage is so costly, you really can't afford not to have it.
• Get an NOAA weather radio.
• Take a Disaster Preparedness Class. 
• If you are ordered to evacuate, DO IT IMMEDIATELY!  Don't take a chance with the lives of you or your family.  And make the evacuation and recovery easier on the Police, Fire and Rescue Personnel.  During an emergency evacuation, their jobs are tough enough.  Don't add to it.
